Between 1949 and 1959, for a decade, the State of Israel was under the "rationing policy", a resource management policy unlike anything else in the economy as we know it today - the period is now known as the period of austerity.
The method worked in such a way that every citizen in Israel received a notebook with coupons that allowed him to buy a limited quantity of basic products.
On the one hand the quantity of the products was relatively small and on the other hand the state took care to enforce cheap prices on the products.
Wanna know more about this period and learn very special hebrew words?

"The only man in the government," said her fellow traveler Ben Gurion. She became Israel's first woman prime minister in 1969 and had a brilliant political career that ended with the Yom Kippur War.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1898, Golda Meir knows the pogroms. She moved with her family to the United States, in Wisconsin. From the age of 15, the teenager militates in the party "Poale Zion" (the workers of Zion). This was the beginning of a long commitment to Zionism and Israel. In 1921, the young woman emigrated to Palestine. Sent on a mission to the United States as Secretary of the Zionist Women's Pioneer Organization, she soon proved to be a woman of character and devoted herself to international political issues.
In 1948, David Ben Gurion foresaw a probable invasion of Israel by Arab countries. In search of armaments, he sent Golda Meir to the United States, which raised no less than 55 million dollars. It is a success.
After the creation of the State of Israel in April 1948, she was appointed ambassador of her country in the Soviet Union. From then on, she remained in Israeli politics.
In 1956, replacing Moshe Sharet, she was appointed Minister of Israeli Foreign Policy. She imposed herself by her firm stance with foreign diplomats. She is much appreciated by the Israelis who affectionately call her "Golda". In March 1969, at the age of 70, she was appointed Prime Minister at the time of Levi Eshkol's death. She strives to strengthen her country's ties with the United States and also with Europe. Her wish is to weld the national unity and not to give anything to the Arab countries. She firmly believes that Israel is doing its best to achieve peace, despite the misunderstanding of Arab countries. When the Yom Kippur War broke out on October 6, 1973, the government was taken by surprise. Golda Meir was in shock: in front of the Egyptian forces advancing in the Sinai in the south and the Syrian army in the north, Golda Meir desperately thought that it was the end of the State of Israel.
It will, however, make the strategic decisions that will allow the Yom Kippur War to end to Israel's advantage. But the October conflict ruined her hopes and for the first time the losses were heavy. This war causes a political earthquake. The head of the government is accused of improvidence and thoughtlessness, the war showing the inability of the Mossad secret services to prevent the government. Golda Meir, discredited, is forced to resign.
On December 8, 1978, the Israeli fighter died after a year of failing health. In fact, she had been ill for many years: she suffered from a chronic form of leukemia. Golda Meir is buried in Jerusalem on Mount Herzl, in the cemetery that houses all the founders of the Hebrew state. According to her last wishes, no oratory is pronounced. She who devoted her whole life to her people finally rests in peace.

For the revival of the Hebrew language, one of the most remarkable socio-linguistic events of modern times is characterized by the figure of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda.
Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, was born Eliezer Yitzhak Perelman, in the Lithuanian village of Luzhky on January 7, 1858.
He left Russia in 1878 for Paris to study medicine, with the aim of being a future help to the Jewish community in Palestine. However, due to his own health problems (tuberculosis), Ben-Yehuda was unable to continue his studies, but, to his eternal credit, he did not waver in his convictions, and in 1881 he arrived in Palestine (Israel before 1948) with his revival plans for Hebrew language.
Ben-Yehuda settled in Jerusalem, where most Jews in Palestine lived in their various communities, planning to use the city as a base to spread his ideas of renewal throughout Palestine and the Diaspora.
Ben-Yehuda adopted several action plans. The main ones were presented in three parts, and can be summarized as "Hebrew at home", "Hebrew at school", and "words, words, words".
Ben-Yehuda wanted the Jews of Palestine to speak exclusively Hebrew. Therefore, when his first son, Ben-Zion Ben-Yehuda (better known as Ittamar Ben-Avi), was born in 1882, Ben-Yehuda promised his first wife Deborah to raise the boy as the first Hebrew-speaking child in modern history.
According to Ben-Yehuda, this was a very important symbolic event for the future of the Hebrew revival, because with a child in the house, parents and visitors should speak to him naturally, and converse about the most everyday topics, in Hebrew. And when the child would finally begin to speak on his own, Ben-Yehuda would have living proof that a complete awakening of the language was indeed possible.
And that is indeed what happened. Ittamar Ben-Avi, in his autobiography, describes some of the drastic precautions taken by Ben-Yehuda to ensure that his son would hear - and therefore finally speak - only Hebrew.
Indeed, the child did not begin speaking until the relatively late age of four.
The fact that there was a child in the house accentuated the need to find appropriate Hebrew words for the mundane things of daily life. Thus, new Hebrew words were invented by Ben-Yehuda for objects such as dolls, ice cream, jelly, omelette, handkerchief, towel, bicycle, and hundreds of others. As the child grew, Hebrew developed, both in vocabulary and in the naturalness of expression. Indeed, Ben-Yehuda and his Hebrew-speaking family became a living legend, an embodiment of rebirth for others.

Hebrew is a relatively simple language in the sense that there are very few words.
On the other hand it is possible to make a lot of mistakes because the logic in Hebrew is not the same as the logic in English regarding the use of the language.
For instance, the masculine in English is not necessarily masculine in Hebrew and the same is true for the feminine.
Some words are directly in the plural whereas in English they are in the singular.
Some mistakes are very common among new immigrants to Israel.
